Harry Gill's Shed to Gill's Present day company building

Gill Athletics has had a long history with track and field. Our founder, Harry Gill, was among the top coaches, teaching at the University of Illinois. Harry even helped organize the very first NCAA track and field championships. He would also go on to coach the winning team of those first championships. As a coach, and former athlete, Harry knew what kind of equipment he needed for his team. He was dissatisfied with the American made products so, in 1918 he began his own company right out of his shed. The first item was a javelin, and it was so well received that so wasn’t long before he expanded into other products.

Today we carry on Harry’s legacy. Many of our employees are former athletes and coaches. We know what Harry knew all this years ago. We know the difference between just ok equipment, and the kind that can help give you that extra edge in your performance. The kind of equipment that won’t fail you or put you or your athletes in an unsafe position. We are proud to lead the world in innovated track and field equipment. We will continue to push ourselves even further to make sure we deliver the best equipment.

While the world may look a little different than when Harry started Gill Athletics, you can be sure we have been up for the challenge of adapting with those changes. Our manufacturing has remained strong, and our sales team has come up with some very creative ways to keep in touch with our clients, dealers, sales representatives and more. This blog is our next step in reaching out to everyone who would like to learn even more. Here we will be providing you with deep dives into different products, company info, and much more.
